SEOmoz Gets Into Local Search With GetListed.org Acquisition

get-listed-squareSEO software provider SEOmoz has announced its acquisition of GetListed.org, a software company offering a popular tool for small business owners looking to improve their local search engine visibility.

The purchase price is reported to be about $3 million in cash and stock. As part of the purchase, GetListed CEO David Mihm will be joining the SEOmoz staff.

GetListed launched in 2009, offering local business owners a snapshot of their local search visibility, along with resources and recommendations for improving that visibility. In its announcement today, SEOmoz says the local search tool will remain free “for at least the next 4-6 months.”

GetListed has also run a local search marketing workshop called Local University; it’s not included in the sale to SEOmoz and will be spun off into its own organization.

(Disclaimer: I’m one of the original presenters at the Local University workshops and will be a part-owner in the new Local U organization. I’m also a friend to both parties involved in this sale and helped David Mihm at various stages during the development of the GetListed tool. I would normally have declined to write this story due to those close ties, but nearly all of our writers are en route to our SMX Social Media conference in Las Vegas.)
