Google Maps Adds Photo Albums

The experience of viewing place photos in Google Maps got a little easier this week. Google has announced that it’s now showing certain place images in a photo album. The album pops above the place as an overlay — similar to what you’ve probably experienced before via the Lightbox javascript application.

The photo albums only appear if the user clicks on an image that comes from Google’s Panoramio photo service, or from Google Maps itself. In cases where Google Maps is showing photos from other sources, clicking the image will lead to the source web site of that image.
