Google Adds Recipes To Rich Snippet Markup

The Google Webmaster Central blog announced a new supported rich snippet markup format for recipes. The rich snippets for recipes include user ratings, preparation time, recipe type, a picture and more. Here is an example:

Google Recipes Rich Snippets

The full available attributes you can define include name, recipeType, photo, published, summary, review, prepTime, cookTime, totalTime, nutrition, instructions, yield, ingredients and author. The full technical details can be found here.

As an FYI, Bing has been offering special recipes in the search results since earlier this year. Bing acquires this data through content providers, where Google is allowing content providers to tag up their HTML so they can automatically add richer snippets to recipe results.
