Google Adds 100 Reps To Sell Google Local Ads

Google Woos Local Advertisers from the Wall Street Journal reports Google has added about a hundred sales representatives to focus solely on selling Google Local ads.

The products these sales representatives are selling are primarily Google Place Tags and Google Boost. Tags are a $25 per month label or tag appended to your maps listing in the Google search results. The tags can contain special promotions or sales lines to help encourage a searcher to click on your local listing. Google Boost offers a simplified method of setting up Google AdWords ads that target searchers in your local region.

Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president of geographic and local services said local ads “are simple and they work, so we’ve been investing in marketing and sales to support them.”

Our very own Greg Sterling was interviewed on why Google is using a sales team to sell these ads. Greg explained, “but what Google has come to see is that without a sales force or at least human involvement in the process, they’re not going to acquire these small businesses as customers.”
