Doodle 4 Google Winner Announced: Melton's Rainforest Habitat

Google announced the winner of the 3rd annual Doodle 4 Google competition. The Doodle is viewable above and will be displayed on the Google home page tomorrow, May 27th.

The winner was Makenzie Melton, a third grader at El Dorado Springs R-2 Schools in El Dorado Springs, Missouri for her “Rainforest Habitat” doodle. Besides for her doodle being on the Google home page, she will receive a $15,000 college scholarship, a netbook computer and a $25,000 technology grant for a new computer lab at her school.

The three national finalists included:

  • Grades 4-6: Raymundo Marquez, Grade 6, of Nellie Mae Glass Elementary, Eagle Pass, Texas for his doodle entitled “Save Our Rainforest.”
  • Grades 7 – 9: Vance Viggiano, Grade 7, Heritage Home School Academy, Long Valley, New Jersey, for his doodle entitled “The Love of Art.”
  • Grades 10 – 12: Bevan Schiffli, Grade 9, Highlands School, Highlands, North Carolina, for her doodle entitled “Branch Out.”
